The Search for the Perfect Bag

I have a lot of generic bags. Hahaha. You know, faux leather, designer inspired bags. I have one for Mulberry Alexa, one for Proenza Schouler PS1. I have a duffle and a murse. I also have a Givenchy Parfum duffle bag which was free. I'd like to think it's my first "Designer bag" LOLZ!

Now, I am saving up for a real, legit designer bag. My criteria
1. Big size (I put a lot of things in my bag, ask anyone)
2. Durable (I'm a use and abuse when it comes to bags)
3. Lots of space (I'd like to be organized)
4. Chic and understated (No LV monograms for me)

Now, here are my top 5 and my one I WOULD HAVE TO STARVE TO AFFORD IT
1. Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag
- I was intrigued by the name and when I saw it, it was love at first sight. Affordable and it has a downtown chic look. Lots of pockets and lots of ways to wear it.

Price: 550 USD

2. Marc by Marc Jacobs Moto Satchel
- I super love that it can look rugged and elegant at the same time. It kinda looks like a briefcase to me. I love its unique opening with the zipper on the side and it opens up. Hehehehe

Price: 548 USD

3. Alexander Wang Eugene Satchel
- What do you expect from Alexander Wang bags? Coolness of course! And I love this Eugene satchel. I was contemplating on the Rocco but there are too many fakes and Eugene has not been replicated yet. Hehehehe. I love that it has a lot of pockets and the straps are chain with leather. PURRRRFECTTT!!!

4. Proenza Schouler PS1 Large
- There's this ongoing battle between Mulberry Alexa and Proenza Schouler PS1 and for me PS1 wins big time. First, Mulberry has that awful back leather connector on the side where it is attached to a stud that can come off. If it does, it makes your bag look cheap. Also, PS1 has more compartments and the leather feels supple.

 5. Givenchy Pandora Bag
- Out of all the Givenchy bags, the Pandora is the one that struck me the most. It looks so cool and unique that I gotta have it. They now come in a box bag which has a sturdier frame but I still prefer my bags slouchy. :)

Price: from 1810 USD above

And the bag I would give an arm and leg (I'll just put the bag in my other arm LOLZ)

THE LOUIS VUITTON SC (SOFIA COPPOLA) BAG
Yaaaassss!!! The ultimate marriage of the Speedy and the Keepall in a chic way. This bag is timeless and LV has recognized that. It is still available. I love the red wine color but would go for black as well. Oh Lord!

 Price: starts at 4,295 USD

As you can see, I prefer the black ones because I don't like seeing dirt in my bag. Although for sure, I will have them restored but still.

What are your dream handbags? :)

Fashion Updates

I'm pretty sure you are all updated but just to give you a head's up
1. ISABEL MARANT X H&M: YES! IT IS HAPPENING! Waaaahhhh!!! I am so wanting this collection. Already saving up but question is, when will there be an H&M in the Phils? Or I'll save up more bucks to go to HongKong and sleep outside. Haha!

2. Fashion shakeups: I guess the fact that we were blindsided by Nicholas Ghesquiere's resigning at Balenciaga was just the start. Now, it seems he is in talks to take the place of Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton. Say whaaatttt???? Let's explain this further.

Marc introduced Louis Vuitton as a fashion luxury powerhouse not only creating covetable bags but clothes and accessories as well. He has so succeeded in it (common we were all obsessing over those Louis Vuitton handcuffs, handcuff clutch, and those metal pointed shoes) but that came with a price. His own line has been suffering in quality. People have been noticing the similarities between the two collections (his own line and LV) but the LV line seems to be more successful. Now, he has appointed Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley as creative director and design director of Marc by Marc’s ready-to-wear so he can now focus on his own line. Oh yeah, there are talks that he wants his company to separate from LVMH and go public, like Michael Kors. I guess we should all be happy for him. I want him to succeed because I love his designs. Haha! And who else would put Madonna for Louis Vuitton? Also, he has already released a beauty line under his own label. That's the only way to go right?

Oh yeah, Nicholas is being sued by Balenciaga for breach of contract of Confidentiality because of the interview he gave.

Back to Marc, apparently he and Emma Hill (creative director of Mulberry who also resigned due to creative differences GASP!) are rumored to be up for the Coach job. Reed Krakoff resigned after 16 years to focus on his own line. I don't think Marc will accept this. This is just a burden towards his rise to fashion empire. Although, with Emma Hill I am quite ecstatic to see that.

I totally agree with this article:
http://www.styleite.com/media/5-reasons-that-mullberrys-emma-hill-should-succeed-reed-krakoff-at-coach/

Ever since Reed Krakoff announced that he would be leaving Coach after a 16-year tenure, there has been a lot of speculation about who would succeed him. Considering that Krakoff transformed the company into a $4.76 billion brand, he’s leaving some pretty big shoes to fill. This morning brings the announcement that Mulberry’s creative director of six years, Emma Hill, would be leaving her post due to disagreements with management over creative and operational strategy (via WWD), and we can’t help but think that the stars are aligning for Hill to take the reigns at Coach. Here are five reasons we’re sure she’s the right women for the job:
1. She’s got the cool factor:
Let’s face it, while Coach has been wildly successful in the States, within the fashion industry it catches flack for being too commercial. The brand has made strides towards changing that by riding along the digital revolution. For example, this past November they tapped Rachel Zoe to style viral sensation Karmin for a music video. Hill launched a number of musical initiatives during her time at Mulberry, giving Mulberry more millennial credibility and proving she’s got her finger to the pulse of what’s hot.
2. She brings the star power:
Considering that Coach is so popular with the masses, elevating its image with celebrity makes a lot of sense. If Hill has proven anything, it’s that she has an eye for stylish talent. Case in point: Lana del Rey. During the pop sensation’s rise to fame, the British brand jumped on her bandwagon by designing a handbag named after the star and declaring her a Mulberry icon. Other It-girls who have served as poster children for the label include Kate Moss and Alexa Chung. Not too shabby.
3. She’s knows a thing or two about “It” Bags:
While Coach bags are so ubiquitous you see them being trotted around New York City, as well as slung over the arms of mall-goers in the Midwest, Coach has never seemed to successfully launch an “It” bag. Mulberry has been churning out coveted styles since 2002 with the ‘Gisele’, and Hill carried on the legacy with the smash success of the Chung-inspired ‘Alexa’ in 2009. Not too long after its launch, Mulberry won the Best Designer Brand prize at the British Fashion Awards and in the same month, boasted profits of nearly £45 million. Hill could bring some of that distinguished class to what is, let’s face it, everyone’s favorite outlet shop.
4. She’s quirky:
It was just a year ago that Hill described Mulberry to the Telegraph explaining, “We’re not tea and crumpets – we’re bonkers.” And she’s got the collections to back it up, with A-listers lining the front row to get a first look at the tongue-in-cheek garnishes on her utterly wearable clothes. Her campaigns are also buzz-worthy, if you recall her Fall 2012 ads in which Lindsey Wixson entered the Where the Wild Things Are world. Hill also closed her most recent runway show with “The Mickey Mouse Club” theme. A little irreverence goes a long way when it comes to fashion and that’s just what Coach is missing.
5. She’s got the resume:
Hill is British-born and Mulberry might be the quintessential British heritage brand, but the designer has also had her hand in the American market. Previously, she designed accessory collections for Marc Jacobs, as well as launched sectors within Marc by Marc Jacobs and the Gap. If those brands don’t carry commercial clout, we don’t know what does.
While the decision for who will take the reigns at Coach remains very much in the air, with even Marc Jacobs’ name being tossed in the ring, we stick firmly to our prediction and are eagerly awaiting the day that a Coach bag rivals the popularity of the Birkin — if anyone can make that happen, Hill can.

Anyways, what do you guys think of this fashion shake up? Who will take the helm at LV in case Marc leaves? How about Mulberry and Coach? Wow! All three are known for their handbags and now I am obsessing over it. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! AHAHAHA!

GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE

This was at the premiere of "The Great Gatsby" in New York.  If you're a fashionphile, you know that Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs are both big Prada fans. And, captured by Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Amy Astley captured this moment and shared this on Instagram.

They both donned the floral print fur coat from Prada's Spring 2013 collection. Each had a different approach. As expected from Anna, she did it classically pairing it with a dress (which I bet is Prada too) and her fave nude Manolo Blahnik kitten heels. While Marc had a quirkier approach (would steal his style if I had that coat as well). He paired it with black jeans, sneakers, and printed socks.

Who wore it better? Anna? or Marc? :D

Spring 2013 Fashion Week in a Nutshell

First of all, I'm sorry that it took me one week to post again. Haha! Been very busy lately but don't worry, I'm still making sure to perform my blogging duties. :)

I'm sure all you fashionphiles out there know what happened this fashion week. This fashion week has more drama than any fashion week ever with a lot of debuts since last season had a lot of "departures."

Let's highlight the special events of the season: (Photos from style.com)

1. Liberty at Alexander Wang- Liberty Ross shocked everyone when she walked at NYFW particularly Alexander Wang. And as a closer, Wang showed glow in the dark dresses! Perfect for those parties huh?

2. THE SUPE IS HERE! - Naomi Campbell opens Zac Posen's show.

3.  Burberry goes metallic- Burberry went with metallics in a lot of hues! Way to go Christopher Bailey! :)

4. Prada is turning Japanese - after the art deco collection, Miuccia Prada showed an array of Japanese inspired dresses completed with floral prints, floral sunglasses, and those shoes to die for!

5. Jil Sander is back at Jil Sander- Jil Sander is back at her own label and made sure she's back.

6. Beth Ditto performs for Versus

7. Hakaan lost his collection- This is very devastating. As in THE WHOLE COLLECTION WAS LOST IN TRANSPORT! If it was stolen, shame on you! :(

8. People of fashion vs Cathy Horyn- Cathy Horyn was banned from the Saint Laurent show and Oscar de la Renta also had his share with Cathy Horyn. This one's a hot highlight! :)

9. Raf Simons debut RTW for Dior - J'adore this collection! It's a departure from his Jil Sander line but still has that Dior taste! :)

10.  Hedi for SLP - Hedi Slimane showed his debut collection for Saint Laurent. He squeezed the DNA of Saint Laurent. There were a lot of wearable clothes and it has promise.

11. The buzz at McQueen - Literally! The bee is here! Haha! I SUPER LOVE IT! :D

12. Chanel hula-hoops to the beach-each! - Chanel surely updated its bag to the maxima!

13. Checkerboards for you, Stripes for me- Marc Jacobs and his collection for Louis Vuitton always has this sense of continuity and it was further strengthened with this season's collection.

14. Celine is in! Fur for spring? Only by Celine!
What was your highlight of the season?

Marc Jacobs Red Dot Sunglasses

Ugh! The agony of pooricity and the living in the Philippines!

I love me some Marc Jacobs! I adore his Spring 2013 collection. I think people would either love it or hate it. And I loved it! Stripes is becoming the trend for spring as Michael Kors and Dolce and Gabbana followed suit. But there's something about Marc's collection that tells something about him as a designer. He is a very focused designer creating such a cohesive, wearable, and downright sellable collection based from a very common trend... STRIPES! I guess that I love stripes campaign he has for Marc by Marc Jacobs featuring striped sunnies really got into him! Haha!

Anyway, Marc created a new fragrance named "Dot." Haven't smelled it yet but I've smelled "Lola" and "Bang" so I'm sure it's gonna be a great and unique scent. And with that, he created limited edition sunglasses. The "Red Dot" sunglasses.

It's quite a different shape right? And that flower on the temple? Instant showstopper. If you can't work this oversized butterfly shape. Here's a less severe shape:
The trademark is the flower temples! :)

JUST SOME FASHION "DOWN"DATES!

"Down"dates as in the opposite of "updates" because bien sur, you know these already
1. RAF SIMONS FOR DIOR! The rumors are getting stronger and it might come into reality! People are already confirming Raf Simons for Dior. I'm so excited. I wanna see how Raf will combine his aesthetic to the Dior Look. I'm sure he'll have more creativity here and more resources, I'm sure! ;) Let's all stay tuned for this! The news will be delivered July 2012 which is in time for Fall 2012 couture.

2. MARC JACOBS AND PORN STAR HARRY LOUIS OUT AND ABOUT!
The picture says a thousand words but the main idea "YES! THEY'RE DATING!"
Can I just say that they both look cute together? And hot! Did I mention hot? They're a hot couple! I'm happy for them! :)
Photos courtesy of dailymail.co.uk. These photos are not mine. :)
I wish them nothing but the best!
Now off to the Summer Bazaar in World Trade Center. It's up until tomorrow so better get your summer shopping on! See you there!

HEDI SLIMANE FOR YSL! CONFIRMED! MARC JACOBS FOR DIOR! AGAIN?

Hedi Slimane is confirmed by YSL as its new creative director.
Official Statement of YSL (from its Facebook page)
Yves Saint Laurent and PPR announce today the appointment of Hedi Slimane as Creative Director of the maison Yves Saint Laurent. Slimane will assume total creative responsibility for the brand image and all its collections. In parallel with this new position, he will continue to pursue his career in photography.
Hedi Slimane thus returns to the fashion house where he was Artistic Director of Menswear until 2000.
“Hedi Slimane’s exceptional talent and understanding of the spirit of Yves Saint Laurent heralds a promising new chapter in the story of the maison”, said Paul Deneve, Chief Executive Officer of Yves Saint Laurent.
François-Henri Pinault, PPR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, added, “As one of the most important French fashion houses, Yves Saint Laurent today possesses formidable potential, which I am confident will be successfully harnessed and revealed through the vision of Hedi Slimane.”
Meanwhile, the Marc Jacobs for Dior rumors are back again after Marc was spotted at the MiuMiu show. I don't get it. Miu Miu is not a conglomerate of LVMH. :) But whoever it might be (Haider Ackermann was again back as LVMH sent a bunch of flowers to his office), let's hope the critics will be nicer.

BTW, the Dior Fall 2012 was a slight improvement from the Spring 2012 show. There's still those "we got used to Galliano for Dior" but if LVMH wants Dior to be back in its glory then bring Galliano back. Or maybe they want Dior to be in a new direction (a direction I don't get).
