HALLOWEEN!

It's that time of the year... HALLOWEEN!

Well here in the Philippines (for my international readers! Yay!), Halloween is not celebrated the way it is celebrated in other countries. First, there is no trick or treat. Second, I never see anyone dress up in the streets. Third, we just like scaring people and making up ghost stories. Fourth, if it will be a costume, it's just a bedsheet with holes for the eyes and nostirls or hair covering the face to channel Sadako. That's it. We only have cheesy horror films with special effects that can be made by me.

Me, a college student with no experience in editing. HECK, I CAN EVEN DO A BETTER JOB ON THOSE SPECIAL EFFECTS. Haha!

So, on to Halloween and Fashion connection. I think Halloween is the time where there is no fashion, just a trend. You get me? Right now, everyone will be dressing as two things: 1) LADY GAGA! or 2) The Cast of Twilight.

Have fun to all the trick-or-treaters! :D

Also, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! :D

CARLA BRUNI

Politics has never been fashionable ever since Jackie got her O. It means when Jacqueline Kennedy became Onassis. Although she was still fashionable with her Chanel tweed jacket and her big round Jackie O shades, it wasn't the same when she was in the White House being the first lady. I think MObama (Michelle Obama) and Ms. Carla Bruni made politics fashionable. I'm not really into MObama even if she has a great stylist. I love Carla Bruni because she's more beautiful and well, SHE WAS A FORMER FASHION MODEL!

Carla Bruni is France's first lady. And France being a very influential city on fashion (Paris Fashion Week is the best with Haute Couture shows always presented there and of course, CHANEL!) they need someone that will also represent their government in a way Paris is known for, FASHION! And Carla Bruni, in my opinion, best represents that.

Carla Bruni even made it to the 2010 Vanity Fair's most stylish. Well, I'd want to say more about Bruni but I think a picture paints a thousand words. Haha!

HERVE LEGER

BODY CONSCIOUS? GO FOR HERVE LEGER BONDAGE DRESS and sexify yourself!

Herve Leger is is a French fashion house founded by the designer currently known as Hervé L. Leroux. So you're all like "currently known?" so what was he known before? Well he was known as HERVE LEGER. Yes! That is his real name and he lost rights to it. To tell you the truth I didn't understand it either. That's what all the fashion bios said. So let's just deal with it. :))

Anyway, Herve Leger is known for body hugging dresses which stress your curves and makes you feel sexy. While I'm writing this I'm actually swaying to make my waist more hourglass shaped! Haha! Kinda like belly dancing while you're sitting. I actually always do that. I do this belly dancing type. I don't know, I think it's a habit now. Haha! Try it! It won't hurt, I promise.

So these dresses are kinda like Spanx. And I think only my international readers (Yay!) can relate to that. There are no Spanx in the Philippines. So, to my fellow Filipinos and Filipinas, WHAT ARE SPANX? They're slimming intimates. Intimates so you wear them underneath your clothes to accentuate body parts you want to accentuate or subtract. You know, trim your waist, add more bootie, add more breast, make you look like an hourglass shape. So, Herve Leger dresses also do that. Except Spanx are much MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE! :))) I guess Filipinas are okay with what they have. If not, they go to Dra. Belo or Doctors Manny and Pie Calayan, or other doctors. I mean our celebrities do that and we don't judge them. Well I don't know, I judge them especially Regine Velasquez!

Okay, back to Herve Leger. Haha! Now, the one designs Herve Leger dresses is Max Azria. Yes as in the BCBG MAX AZRIA one. I like BCBG MAX AZRIA dresses by the way. Haha! We'll talk about that some other time. So that's signature Herve Leger, bondage style and body hugging dresses. It certainly will make you sexier or accentuate those curves. Don't believe me? Here are some Hollywood celebrities in Herve Leger.

JEAN-PAUL GAULTIER RTW SPRING/SUMMER 2011

FYI RTW means Ready To Wear. So, just saying.

So, Jean Paul Gaultier's RTW is always on the crazy side. If you will look at his past collection , they're not usually something people really wear. But, it catches the eye of fashionistas and celebrity so he earns. BTW, his collection for Target was great! I would certainly buy every piece in the collection! They're so avant-garde but still leaning on the casual side.

So, it started off with BETH DITTO OF GOSSIP! I love Gossip! I love their music! So, Beth Ditto is the vocalist and well she's a plus-plus-PLUS-SIZE girl! Yes, she's that vilaptuous! But seriously, she has her own fashion sense and it's actually really great! Looking at her casual and stage outfits, I'm impressed. No offense, but I really do think it's hard to find fierce fashion for fat women. So, for her to do that is insane! And well, she also designed clothes. She designed for high-street store Evans. Don't be intimidated by the term "high street." The most famous high-street brands are Topshop, Gap, Forever 21, and H&M. So, you know the prices won't hurt your pockets.

Well, let's go back to JPG's summer 2011 collection. Basically, it's very Gaultier. The wigs are very Joan Jett-ish. The wild short hair, it reminds me of her. So Karlie Kross opened the show formally. Meaning, she's the first real model to go, because Beth Ditto was the first girl to walk but you know she's not really a model. Haha! She was in this star-printed dress that was mixed with leather for that rock element.

I REALLY LOVED THE SHOES. The shoes that dominated the show were two toned shoes. It means one color on the left part then another color on the right part. In love!!! Those shoes can be something you could mix and match with your outfits. The first part were mostly these outer space like themes focusing on the star prints. It then progressed to leather jackets, denim, and boots that I also love, especially those red boots on Eliza Cummings. There was even these cross bracelets with the cross really exaggerated and connects with a ring. SO COOL AND ROCK AND ROLL!!!! I WANT THOSE!!!!

I also loved those blazers! They have a strong shape! If you watch the show, you will see that it forms a strong square silhouette that feels you are wearig a square costume. Ugh! I can't explain, but watch it and you will understand!

I must say the collection is very dynamic, I loved it all and if you mix and match it with outfits in your closet, it'll make you stand out! If you like to mix a touch of rock and roll to your wardrobe, you will certainly fall in love with this collection, and also, watch other Gaultier shows on youtube and you'll undertsand why I love Gaultier. He has a unique sense of fashion and that's what I like in a world of trend following!!! UNIQUENESS! :D

FASHION ICON #2: LADY GAGA

GaGa is my second fashion icon. GaGa just makes me want to go gaga! Haha! I mean, have my own style. She doesn't play by the rules that much and that's good. Fashion need not to have rules but just guidelines.

GaGa made me fall in love with sunglasses. Well, it's her staple style. The sunglasses is not just an accessory to her because she buys tons of sunglasses. I think to her, sunglasses are her personality. It is a part of who she is, and she changes sunglasses as she changes clothes I think. I mean her collection can build an entire museum.

She  made me be more careful of my fashion choices. She also solidified my appreciation for leather, and latex. Haha! She has her own style and I think people should have their own style too. Even if you have style icons, make sure to put something of your own to it. It will actually make the look your own even if you copied like 90% of it to your style icon.

So it's a very short post but needless to say, I think in terms of fashion GaGa will not be forgotten for what she has brought to style, not fashion. I mean, she wears haute couture fashion, so do other people, she just wears it on casual occasions, and others wear it on special occasions and for artists like Madonna, they wear it on their concert so no biggie. GaGa's contribution to style is freedom and independence. Having fun with fashion because fashion is meant to be fun and stressful. Haha!

Til the next fashion journey! :D

I'M GOING TO TELL YOU A SECRET

So, this is not literally i'm going to tell you a secret but rather, it is a title of Madonna's 2005 documentary. It documents (duh!) her 2004 Re-Invention Tour. 2004. Yikes! 6 years have passed and now GaGa is ruling the pop world. But despite that, the 2004 Re-Invention Tour costumes puts GaGa's Monster Ball costumes to shame. Yes, she has a bra that sparks but it is nowhere near Madonna's outfits in this tour. Her costumes in the video interlude surpasses GaGa's outlandish outfits, even the meat dress. Why? It's f*cking Christian Lacroix. The best in couture. Her red dress can just be her outfit for the whole concert and you might say "THAT IS SO GAGA!" But it was BG! BEFORE GAGA! Her outfits still surpass GaGa's current ones and it must be heartbreaking for her. I love GaGa but I must agree with the critics, BG outfits were still fiercer than the GaGa era. Kylie Minogue and Madonna still puts on a show and we're getting excited for their return to the stage to once again, put GaGa's costumes into shame. OUCH!

Well Kylie will be returning to the stage on February 2011 for her Les Folies Tour. And God only knows when Madonna will return to the stage. She isn't even recording new music so I'm not expecting a new tour unless she records new music. PS MADONNA DOESN'T HAVE A RECORD LABEL CONTRACT SO NO LABEL MEANS NO MUSIC. I SUGGEST GO INDEPENDENT GIRL! :))

Well, let's talk about Madonna's ReInvention Tour. GOD I LOVE THAT CONCERT! it is one of Madonna's best tours, but seriously, Madonna always puts on an elaborate show worthy of a very expensive ticket price. Madonna is the only artist not criticized for pricing tickets so high because "you get what you pay for, screw that, more than what you pay for." She takes time to reinvent her old songs (e.g. Material Girl in a rock remix? Into the Groove and Holiday in a Scottish performance?) ,an elaborate stage (who puts her audience on the stage? the most expensive tickets were the one IN THE STAGE. LIKE LITERALLY. There's a hole in the stage for them and they get to see Madonna up close. Now that's where Madonna's sweat would even hit you. Haha!), and elaborate costumes (Seriously more GaGa than GaGa but not that GaGa! You'll get it when I post the pictures!)

SO if you are curious about the costumes, well here they are!

This circus costume is designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. Great choice! Circus costumes are supposed to be big and bold and the details should be seen from afar which is in contrast with Chanel. Chanel is subtle and you have to see it to appreciate all the subtleties.

Looks familiar? Take off Madonna's fedora hat and view GaGa's Alejandro Music video, the one where the music changes, and her dancers are walking with a pose part. or shortly, go to youtube and watch the 5:37 mark

FIERCE AREN'T THEY? GAGA WOULD CERTAINLY BE JEALOUS OF THESE OUTFITS! :)))

FASHION ICON #1: MADONNA

SO Madonna is my #1 fashion icon.
I used to combine outifts that will be similar to the outfits she would wear on concert. I used to look at purple shoes, purple shirt, purple leather jacket, and purple fingerless gloves.

I also used to look for Keith Haring printed shirt and vest. Also, red shorts, black knee-high socks with three stripes (i got one from adidas) and nike stox. Nike stox costed Php 6,000 plus so I said NEVER MIND! Haha!

Now, I am looking for a black coat that looks like her Givenchy jacket.
NOW, I AM CHANNELING HER CASUAL LOOK. Her casual look, leather jacket, leather fingerless gloves, trousers, and high heels. Well, I'm not looking for high heels. Haha! I found the other ones but I am saving up to buy them.

Another Madonna casual look, fedora hats and scarves. I am lushing over a fedora hat from Aldo but it costs more than 1,000 pesos.

Very expensive! I saw a lot of scarves and might MIGHT be buying. It's hot here in the Philippines, no need for those scarves right?

I was actually intending to buy a Von Dutch cap. Before, I don't know why. But I've been aching to buy one, and also an Ed Hardy shirt. But I realized it was because of Madonna. But, I'm having second thoughts. And I think you people know why. Besides, they don't fit my personality. Haha! I might take fashion risks but wearing those is a risk I know the result of: FASHION DISASTER! HAHA!

Also, Madonna designed her own line of sunglasses. Unfortunately, there isn't any here in the Philippines. Not even in Sunglass Hut in Newport Manila. You know, the one near NAIA. :))) I'm not confident with international buying. Haha!

So? Who is your fashion icon? I have more and will be posting more on the later days.
How do you channel your fashion icon?
'Til the next fashion journey! :D

VERSUS IS LOVE!

I LOVE VERSUS! SO you're asking, what the hell is Versus?
Versus is a line from the VERSACE Group.

Brief History: Versus was given by Mr. Gianni Versace (the creator and creative director of Versace) to her sister, Ms. Donatella Versace as her own line where she can put her creativity. It was meant to be the edgier line of Versace and caters mostly to the younger crowd. Well, since Mr. Gianni Versace died in 1997 due to being shot by Andrew Cunanan, Ms. Donatella took charge of being the Creative Director. With so many lines from Versace (like Atelier Versace, Versace Jeans Couture, etc.), Versus was kind of neglected. It held its last show on 2004.

Now, Mr. Christopher Kane was appointed director of Versus, and with the start of Spring 2010 collection, Versus is getting a lot of following especially B, as in Blair Waldorf or Ms. Leighton Meester herself. Its certainly an edgy line with Mr. Kane's edgy runway looks. In love with it! It's certainly something you have to see for yourself before you judge, so look away. Here are the links.

DOLCE AND GABBANA FALL 2009

You might be wondering, it's already SPRING 2011 collections. Why go back to fall 2009? Well, I'm only going for Dolce and Gabbana. And you have to view it to understand why I have to highlight this collection.

First, I love Dolce and Gabbana. They're a duo so I'm really amazed that the fashion conflicts are well kept. (Dolce and Gabbana, the designers have already separated like separated as a couple.) But they can't beat out Dean and Dan of Dsquared. You know, the host of Launch My Line. They're identical twins. I guess they even shared the fashion DNA in their blood. :)

PS. Watch their menswear shows for hot male models! ;) They sure have great taste in men don't they? ;) They have Adam Senn and Noah Mills and that's good enough for me. :))

So, back to the collection. SO the fall 2009 is a nod to old hollywood and to exaggerated shoulders. They even have a great version of the female tux with exaggerated shoulders (as seen on Jessica Stam, my favorite model from Canada.) and versions of a Marilyn Mnroe print dresses and gowns.
